The Last Song

The Last Song stars star sensation Miley Cyrus. The movie is based on the best-selling novelist Nicholas Sparks.

The movie is set in a small Southern beach town where an estranged father gets a chance to spend the summer with his reluctant teenaged daughter (Miley Cryus), who’d rather be home in New York than to be with his father.

He(Greg Kinnear) tries to reconnect with her through the only thing they have in common which is music. In a story of family, friendship, secrets and salvation, along with first loves and second chances.

I would rate the movie from 1 to 10 just 9. The movie is great and tell us alot about giving second chances and about friendship.

The Last Airbender 2010 Review

The movie is just based on the anime watch in Nickelodeon. Like twilight, it seem to be a trilogy and seems to lack more detailed information on what exactly the movie is about. You have to be familiar of the anime to appreciate the movie and seemingly be able to have an idea of what the movie is all about.

With the scenes, some are astonishing supposedly it uses the same concept as of the cartoon into the movie that makes its interesting.

So, my review of the movie is only 6 out of 10.

Twilight Saga: Eclipse

I had the opportunity to watch today the 3rd installment of the Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling novel Twilight.

With a long line waiting together with my girlfriend, we waited for long hours of lining to purchase  tickets and wait longer for the movie screening.

I was so surprise of the many people who are anticipating to watch this movie and since my girlfriend is a Twiilight fanatic. I ought to watch it too. :-)

It was really great as to what my girlfriend told me comparing it to the novel I bought her to read. We have the two twilight book, the first which is the Twilight and the next which is the Twilight: New Moon.

We have also watch all 3 movies including the latest one which is the Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

The movie was great and I love the effects but I was a bit unsatisfied and wanting more. Maybe, that is what the novel is about, you have to wait for the next one since it is only based on the novel.

New villain, new cast and a great movie. All I can say is I love it but I wish it was more. :-)

THE SECRET TO ‘PINGPING’S TINAPA’ (SMOKED FISH)

For Isagani and Guadalupe de Guzman, the first step from their hometown of Calbayog City in Samar to Australia was taken because they had no choice.

“My father had nine children and no means of livelihood when the big fishing boats came. Instead of competing, we just put up a factory of smoked fish called Pingping’s Tinapa in 1979,” said Elizabeth de Guzman.

The business sent all nine children to college and replaced the original family home made of plywood into one of concrete.

Shelf life

Business further picked up when Pingping’s Tinapa improved its product’s packaging and shelf life.

It was Guadalupe de Guzman, now 67 years old, who approached the Department of Science and Technology for help. “The tinapa that we see in the markets today are wrapped in old newspaper and then slid into a sando bag,” she said. “What we learned from the DoST was to place the tinapa in vaccum-sealed plastic bags to preserve its flavor and quality.”

DoST technology also lengthened the shelf life of smoked fish from four days to six months, making the product more attractive either as a gift or a market commodity for buyers in Manila and distributors to Brunei, Singapore, and Australia.

Production

With the fear of spoilage minimized, Pingping’s Tinapa increased its daily production run by 50% to 300 pieces and its daily production value by 33% to P367, 200.

“We now maximize our production when fish is abundant and cheap,” said Elizabeth de Guzman.

In terms of gross sales, the lengthened shelf life of smoked fish and better packaging increased actual gross sales from P2.94 million to P5.88 million in the span of one year.

Production is expected to further increase next year with the arrival of a P190,000 packaging machine in the second half of 2003.

The machine will enable Pingping’s Tinapa to expand production by another 2,000 pieces a month or close to the plant’s 4,600-kilograms monthly capacity and hire additional workers on top of the existing six workers and eight worker-member of the family.

“With this machine, we can export directly instead of go through middlemen. We are now working on getting accredited by the Bureau of Food and Drugs,” said the younger de Guzman.

Tuesday Travel

I went to Tacloban yesterday together with my girlfriend. My very purpose was to get my laptop which I had to return to its service center for a LCD replacement. We travel by land through GrandTours Van service.

It was exhausting, the heat of sun the long hour of travelling that took almost 4 hours from Calbayog City to Tacloban City.

The sad news, friday last week, I called the regional branch of the store where I purchased my laptop and they told me that my laptop is available for pickup by tuesday. So, without hesitation, we went through a lon 4 hours of travel just to get their and to get back my laptop which I have using for my work as a homebase web programmer but is stack with using our desktop computer at home for almost 2 months. When I went there, they told me that the cargo who is carrying my laptop is not allowed to enter Tacloban City and that I will have to return during the weekend just to be sure. What a disappointment.

I am home now and will just return on the weekend just to get my laptop which I am longing for to have and use for 2 months.

Hope all goes well. I’ll keep you updated. :-)
